What is the CDA Credential?
The Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential is a nationally recognized certification in early childhood education. It demonstrates your ability to support children’s development in a professional childcare setting.
The CDA is awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition and is one of the most important credentials for advancing your career in early childhood education.
CDA Requirements Overview
To earn your CDA Credential, you must complete the following:
120 hours of formal early childhood training
480 hours of work experience with children
Professional portfolio
CDA application
Verification visit (observation)
CDA exam
You must complete 120 hours of training across 8 subject areas.

Step 5 – Verification Visit
A CDA Professional Development Specialist will:
Observe your work with children
Review your portfolio
Conduct a reflective dialogue
Step 6 – Take the CDA Exam
You will take an exam that tests your knowledge of:

Learning environments
Family engagement
Once all steps are completed successfully, you will receive your official CDA Credential.
